Idea Generating session : on!

Still missing of one member of the group but we manage to agree on certain ideas. We have presented our ideas on the two required task; to improve an existing section on the magazine and to introduce a new section to the magazine.

REVAMPING A SECTION: At first I have to list out what are the content / section the magazine have because both of my members, Amir and Jessica can't read in Bahasa Melayu. After I listed, we decided to pick the one with less words (besides it would be easier for the non-malay reader) and thought about it. Since the last post from the brain storming exercise, I have picked the section before, I would think I have a heads-up on the topic. The section I (and my members) have picked is the lyric / chords section. We decided the show the chords (by strings and fingering) in the lyrics. Also maybe try using different color as for now both chords and lyrics are in the same color.

Something similar to the image above. On every issue will have different songs, following the feature songs of the month with of course includes the song itself. Other than just the guitar guides, we thought of maybe putting with other instrument's chord as well, however that is not fully discussed.

INTRODUCING A NEW SECTION: We were stuck for sometimes as we didn't know much to put into the magazine. Hence, we search through another magazine (RollingStones) and also the previous issues of ROTTW.

Amir suggested to do the rockstars gear, where we can show the readers what the instrument (guitar, drum stick and etc), paddle used and much more. Since there are various of rockstars and the variety of instruments, these help in the continuation in different issue.

After that, I thought of rock fashion (though it's kind of exist before in other magazine), like what are the trendy clothing for rockstars nowadays and whatnot.  Since it's not unusual for fashion to be in the magazine, that was considered as good idea but wasn't much agreed on.

Then, Jessica thought of doing a band comparison section after flipping through RollingStones. Since it can be useful for the fans / reader, we put that under our list too.

Lastly, an upcoming trailer of new bands / songs that are going to be released. Though that is quite ordinary and not everyone will read through it much.

At the end, we go by Amir's idea, that is to feature the gear of the rocker used. Since it would be more ideal for a rock magazine and the target audience would be majority man anyways. So here, we can put the virtual items that the rockstar used so that the reader can imagine or see how does it looked like. Besides, it would attract the readers more than the other section introduced.

Not really like this, but similar, where it shows the gears backstage, shows how the sound was produced and etc.

Exercise 1: Let's play a game!

The game we played (well, sort of a game) was to pass a paper each in the group and each paper will have a question. All four people in the group are to rotate it among members and write 3 ideas in it.

Mine question was: How to make the guitar chord section easier for the reader?

Mine ideas are the top three. I didn't know that I was suppose to write it last. My group member was not complete (there's only Jessica) so I am told to join with another two members from different group, Nigel and Arwa. So the arrangement of the ideas written is Me, Nigel, Arwa then Jessica. I wrote the first one before passing around while the other two after that.

My first idea is to put a visual guitar and name the strings or put the chords of the key together with the fingering. This is to make it easier if the reader is a beginner in playing guitar but have the interest to learn to play. For example, if the first chord is Dm, reader can click on the guitar / at the side and click Dm. On the end of each string, it will have the key E,B,G and etc.

Second idea, a short game with the featured song and the reader can play the song according to the right chord, something like song based game such as " guitar hero"or "O2Jam". This is inspired by Arwa's second idea and Nigel's idea 3. This way, reader can be release of boredom / sleepiness of reading to much text in the earlier pages. Not only that, reader have fun while learning how to play.

Lastly, a video tutorial for the guitar playing and also including vocal. This include explanation and step by steps instruction. Maybe can do it in separate timing so that reader can learn it by steps. This also helps reader to learn especially if they wanted to try it on the real instrument. Inspiration from Arwa and Jessica.

My Creative Profile

What am I good at in terms of creativity and what usually motivates me?

I'm not really sure however most of it involves animations and 2D visuals. I loves things that are colorful and amazing beyond words such as a drawing of a colorful / breath-taking scenery. Basically, visuals that are surreal and more into the fantasy genre. I may not be a perfectionist, but I like if things turns out to be like what I thought about it the first place and I prefer visuals that are perfect - especially when it comes to human figures. For that, I have trouble drawing creatures or monsters if needed.

I always get my motivations from Japanese animations (anime), visual music videos, fan art (drawings / painting from fans) or even short animation films from varies studios. Usually mediums that are cute catches my attention most of the time, because of that, I will always want to make my outcome cute if possible but at the same time suitable with the given task.

I don't usually do things that I feel that it will be difficult. As I try to accomplish it to its certain degree but not exceeding my capabilities. Sometimes, I may think of a way that I can't achieve it and not even sure if it's possible. Hence, I would come up with an easier solution to accomplish it though it may be 100% similar to what I wanted.

I love to draw and mostly I would draw humans - not realistic but perfect face. I couldn't and probably wouldn't want to draw something that doesn't look "pretty". I can't seem to get myself to like most of my drawings but I'm practicing to get what I want, a perfect human feature.

Introduction

This is a new blog solely for my Innovation and Collaboration subject. I am to update about my work / ideas / my collaboration in my group project.

So the group project is to create a way to make an existing magazine into an appealing digital magazine. We are to pick a section and brainstorm to make it better.
